What will the course cover?
Our course is very hands-on, with a mix of theory and practical exercises. We keep it simple and accessible so that it is suitable for younger children.

And it’s fun. This is not boring classroom work. We are out and about, exploring the locality and learning how to gain a good eye for a photograph, practising skills and the theory we learn straight away.

By the end of the three days, your child will be able to:

  • Operate an SLR camera on manual mode.

  • Identify photographers and different styles of photography.

  • Understand composition and how to achieve different effects through choice of aperture and exposure.

  • Know how to take a good portrait

  • Understand lighting in natural daylight.

  • Learn how to cull images.

  • Begin editing to get images ready for a final display of images

The teaching was outstanding, the environment so welcoming and the creativity it sparked has stayed with him. A truly brilliant experience. Highly recommended.”

FAQs

Do I need my own camera?

Ideally, yes. If you already have one, brilliant! It should have manual settings and the ability to change lenses for the best experience.

What is the format of the day?

We will start at 10am and finish at 3pm. All children will need a packed lunch and snacks and drinks for the day. The course will be a mix of theory and practical, with lots of time to apply their learnings on a practical basis.

What if I don't have a camera?

No problem! We’ll have a few cameras available to share within the group. However, to get the most out of the course, we recommend hiring your own. We can guide you through the process—it’s straightforward, with cameras typically delivered to your door and returned via courier. The cost is around £60 per day (including insurance), depending on the model. Please note, it is not compulsory.

Alternatively a second-hand camera is a good shout. We can recommend good suppliers.

Do I need an SD card?

An SD card would be most useful so you can keep the photos you take. However, any photos taken of any of the group during the course would require a model release for you to use them or keep them. Otherwise we will have to delete them.
